Inner monologue matters. Our self-talk can make or break the hard drive of motivation and belief. Taking a negative thought captive when we realize thinking catastrophic thoughts undermines productivity, give the opportunity to train the brain! If you find yourself saying inwardly that something will never work. If you find your self saying it outwardly even in a whisper, you inadvertently are programming negatively into the hard drive of what becomes a belief. When we reframe a thought into possibility with If I work hard, I’ll improve my chances of success. Not only will you improve the chance, but you will also have set off a new dendrite (electric current) that is a new thought waiting like a newborn babe to be fed and grow into something significant.
Everyone has rough patches and bad days. But by replacing those overly pessimistic thoughts with positive and realistic expectations, you are more able to stay on course and build mental health to manage the bad days. We must also guard against what is pop culture’s interpretation of what Scripture teaches a Christ-follower about being transformed by the renewing of our mind. There is an intentionality to submitting to the one that initially created our mind. The work of transforming is God’s, not that of the human race. Science just happens to prove what the bible has taught all along. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are capable of taking thoughts captive and the mind can physically and mentally renew in submission to what is believed.
